Bob Marley 1978 “Babylon By Bus” Album Shirt
FROM MY PERSONAL COLLECTION
Bob Marley & The Wailers album "Babylon By Bus" was released in 1978. To my knowledge, there was never an Island Records official promo shirt created for this album's release. Although some of Bob's albums did get promo shirts made at the same time of their releases, this shirt was created in 1981: 3 years after "Babylon By Bus" came out along with licensing rights attributed to "Movement of Jah People". Apart from the Island Records branded shirts, the only entity making shirts with licensing rights from roughly 1979 to 1983 was "Movement of Jah People". Therefore, this is the earliest example I have found of a "Babylon By Bus" album shirt with licensing rights. Phil Alloy had created this entity through his reggae record shop called Sinbad Records out of Athens, Ohio. In the late 1970s Phil had gone to 56 Hope Road in Kingston and secured licensing rights after speaking with members of the Marley team.
